Pippa qualified with first class honours in Sports Therapy from Teesside University in 2012. Upon graduating she worked for Teesside Sports Injury Centre until 2015. From February 2013 to April 2018, she was the Sports Therapist at Acklam RUFC, providing sports injury and first aid services to all ages and teams of the club. She also acted as clinical supervisor to 3rd year university sports therapy students.
Between January 2013 to July 2016 Pippa also provided lecturing support on the Sports Therapy programme at Teesside University; covering lectures in rehabilitation, sports massage, peripheral mobilisation, anatomy and clinical assessment. In September 2020, she returned to Teesside University, teaching practical seminars on the Spinal Assessment and Mobilisation module.
In 2016, Pippa completed her postgraduate (MSc) degree in Movement Science and Multi-Modal Rehabilitation. This additional study proved invaluable, adding to her knowledge of biomechanics, hydrotherapy and training in Grade 5 Spinal Manipulation.
The ideas behind Get Back to the Action Sports Therapy was first conceived in 2012. The experience Pippa gained in previous roles as a Sports Therapist and business management enabled her to forge ahead with making the business a reality in May 2016. This was a dream come true and the clinics development since makes Pippa very proud.
Since the clinic opened Pippa has undertaken professional development courses in Dry Needling (Acupuncture), Myofascial Release, Cupping Therapy, as well as regularly undertaking critical reflection of her practice and keeps up to date with research. She is also invested in providing additional training and support with the team and leads “Masterclasses” in various topics, such as injury assessment and treatment, biomechanics. This is an important part of her role as clinical director and for the longevity of the clinic. To support this Pippa is also currently undertaking a Level 3 Teaching Award.
Pippa’s interest in sports injuries has come from a lifelong association with sport. Daughter of former Yorkshire County Cricket Captain Phil Carrick she witnessed first-hand, the demands of elite sport and the impact of injury. As a former, county and club netball and hockey player and National equestrian Champion, she has suffered injuries and noticed there is a significant gap between care for professional athletes and anyone (sporting or not) who has suffered from musculoskeletal injury. Consequently, Pippa believes everyone should be entitled to the correct care, advice and rehabilitation.
Outside of clinic, Pippa enjoys spending time with her family, walks on the beach and exploring the local area. She also likes to keep active with walking, running, strength training and plays tennis for a local club. She is also a passionate follower of many sports. Her knowledge of different sports and activities enables Pippa to use her imagination to effectively understand the complexities of how injuries can occur, how to treat them and rehabilitate patients with a thoughtful approach to suit their individual needs.
Pippa has a special interest in the following fields. However, she treats people with any musculoskeletal injury, sporting or not.
